Are you travelling the country while there? The half pass could make going Portmann's worth while. At least it's not far to go skiing from Geneva.

Ben - what's up with the double band on the BBF? Any back story to that?

Gerard has some specially (by him) selected cigars.. those get a second band...

In UK you can find cigars with a second band of the "Orchant Collection" or "Hunters & Frankau"...

They are no different from the regular BBF's, just the most choice and best selection of BBF's to warrant and additional ring.

Are the rings put on in CH? I assume they are.

Are you kidding? It's not a selection, but –supposedly– a creation:

    Excerpt from Gérard's documentation:
This cigar is the first product, officially made in Cuban manufactures, with a completely new vision. It perfectly represents the concept of private blend such as was the case in the Sixties […]. As Bolivar got progressively acclaimed among lovers of rich and strong cigars, we intended to bring to this mark a more flexible quality with smooth, aromatic and woody properties offering the pleasure of tasting the cigar at any hour of the day and even after a light meal. […] Because of its innovating concept, the production of this cigar is limited, and its customers are hand-picked.

That's not the case according to vendor. I guess it depends on what story you want to beleive. According to the him, they are blended to his specifications to more closely represent the old blend.

My understanding is the bands are on them when they leave the island in the branded boxes. The box also has the "Gerards" logo burned into the box similar to the way the marca logo is.

This is indeed the case. The cabinets (which are in virtually all respects identical to the regular BBF cabinets) are actually branded "seleccion Gerard" in the same style as the "Bolivar" logo and the other imprinting...To me, the cigars are a bit more "floral" than the regular BBF blend. Very good sticks, IMHO.

Pretty sure they are applied in Cuba...just like the brand on the boxes.

I have heard they are really good. Gerrard gets some bashing from the Swiss-German's and is over an hour train ride for me (not mention $90 roundtrip). I'll pick up some this summer.
